OceansAsia Officially Launches At ADEX 2019 in Singapore

After a soft launch across social media in January 2019 we’ve been very busy getting OceansAsia ready for launch, and where better place to launch than at the ADEX 2019 Dive Show in Singapore. More than just a dive show, the 3 1/2day ADEX event has a host of speakers from the conservation world as well as some of the worlds best underwater film-makers and photographers, all sharing their knowledge and passion for the ocean realm. This year the theme was single-use plastic and some great initiatives were launched by the organisers to reduce the single use plastic footprint of the event. Water refill stations from Ayer Ayer Fountain reduced more than 5,000 plastic water bottles that would have been used at the event as in previous years.

Joining Gary Stokes was fellow co-founder Teale Phelps Bondaroff who flew in from Victoria BC and on the ground Singapore volunteer Van Wangye who helped man the booth and share our plans with attendees. Some of our new merchandise was also available which seemed to be greatly received. Great to see so many of those who have supported our individual work before come out in force and a very special thank you to John Thet and the Underwater 360 team who organise the best dive show every year!

We were involved with panels discussions on ‘Sustainable Dive Tourism’ and ‘The Single-Use Plastic Conondrum In Asia Future Forward’ as well as a talk on the Saturday by Gary Stokes on the ‘Plastic Disaster’.

After the show we had a few days in Singapore for some scheduled meetings and then the team headed down to Chinatown to investigate the TCM market as well as get a feel of the current shark fin market in Singapore. We had some other findings too which we will share in a later post!
